On December 11, 2023, the Australian government announced changes to the regional visa (491), increasing skilled migration in regional areas to tackle labor shortages. Visa processing will be prioritized in regional Australia starting late 2023, and a review will be conducted to align migration with regional development goals and prevent worker exploitation.
